C'est avec l'aide de ses parents que la designer Kelsey Duda a construit sa maison de vacances dans le Michigan, après que les entrepreneurs de la région aient abandonné le chantier. Ils n'ont pas hésité à faire un long chemin tous les week-ends, pour l'aider à monter les charpentes, peindre les boiseries et tout ce qui était nécessaire. Son père, un bricoleur émérite s'est aidé de YouTube pour apprendre les techniques qu'il appliquait chaque semaine. Et c'est ainsi qu'est née cette belle maison de vacances dans le Michigan (que l'on peut louer sur Airbnb).
Dans cette région de lacs aux eaux cristallines, avec des plages familiales, cette maison a été pensée pour le bien-être des hôtes, dans un style naturel et décontracté, conçue entièrement par Kelsey Duda, qu'il s'agisse des plans qu'elle a dessinée elle-même, jusqu'à l'aménagement et la décoration. Les murs ont été peints à la chaux, et le mobilier a été en grande partie chiné, excepté la table de la salle à manger qui est neuve, ce qui fait oublier qu'il s'agit d'une maison construite il y a peu de temps. Une vieille carte postale représentant le Ferndale Motel, qui se trouvait autrefois sur la propriété, a inspiré le nom de la maison : Fernhaus

The walls have been whitewashed, and the furniture is mostly second-hand, except for the dining room table, which is brand new, making you forget that this is a recently built house.
