Cette maison minimaliste et tropicale construite à Merida au Mexique, La Tropical Villa, est conçue autour de sa piscine. Malgré son allure contemporaine, elle se cache derrière une façade historique du centre de cette ville du Yucatán, prisée par les visiteurs du monde entier. Ses créateurs l'ont conçue comme une oasis moderne, de plain-pied, dont toutes les ouvertures donnent sur la piscine et sur la végétation généreuse. Comme le disent ses propriétaires, c'est une piscine avec une maison, et pas une maison avec une piscine, tellement cette dernière est le point focal de la propriété.
Elle est composée de deux bâtiments distincts, un qui abrite la partie salon, salle à manger et cuisine, le second de l'autre côté du jardin, où se trouve la chambre et la salle de bain et sa baignoire creusée atypique, comme un bain antique. C'est une bâtisse de notre époque, mais mais construite avec des matériaux locaux, de la pierre et du bois du Mexique. Son architecture faite de béton texturé est un hommage au brutalisme mexicain.

Despite its contemporary look, it is hidden behind a historic frontage in the centre of this Yucatán city, popular with visitors from all over the world. Its designers have conceived it as a modern, single-storey oasis, with all the openings overlooking the pool and the lush vegetation. As its owners say, it is a pool with a house, not a house with a pool, so much so that the latter is the focal point of the property.
It is composed of two separate buildings, one that houses the living room, dining room and kitchen, the second on the other side of the garden, where the bedroom and the bathroom are located, with its atypical inground bathtub, like an antique bath. It is a building of our time, but built with local materials, stone and wood from Mexico. Its architecture made of textured concrete is a tribute to Mexican brutalism.
