Cette maison design londonienne a été installée dans une ancienne distillerie de Whitechapel rénovée par l'architecte Rupert Scotts de Open Pratice Architecture. La décoration épurée laisse la vedette aux beaux volumes, soigneusement mis en valeur par la hauteur des fenêtres Crittall, et le blanc immaculé des murs. Bien que l'on se trouve dans un des quartier les plus vivants à l'est de la capitale britannique, c'est un havre de paix et de sérénité, plein de lumière.
L'architecte a conservé les grands murs en briques et la terrasse en béton qui existaient avant la rénovation, tout en ajoutant de l'acier à la structure pour la renforcer. Il a créé une nouvelle maison dans une maison ancienne, en lui gardant son aspect initial, mais en la rendant totalement moderne en terme de construction. La charpente métallique exposée au rez-de-chaussée, et le bois de séquoia scandinave, associés à des panneaux muraux en béton poli évoquent l'aspect industriel des lieux et leur ancienne vie.
This London design house was installed in a former distillery in Whitechapel renovated by architect Rupert Scotts of Open Pratice Architecture. The decor is pure and uncluttered, with the high Crittall windows and the pristine white of the walls giving way to the beautiful volumes. Although it is located in one of the liveliest areas in the east of the UK capital, it is a haven of peace and serenity, full of light.
The architect has retained the large brick walls and concrete terrace that existed before the renovation, while adding steel to the structure to strengthen it. He created a new house in an old house, keeping its original appearance, but making it totally modern in terms of construction. The exposed steel frame on the ground floor, and Scandinavian redwood, combined with polished concrete wall panels evoke the industrial aspect of the place and its former life.
