J'ai déjà eu l'occasion de vous montrer un appartement Le Corbusier rénové dans l'immeuble iconique de la Cité Radieuse de Marseille dans cet article. Mais il existe un autre bâtiment du même type, appelé "unité d'habitation" qui a été construit à Firminy au sud de Saint Etienne, entre 1965 et 1967 et qui regroupe sur un site unique une Maison de la Culture (classée UNESCO), un stade et une église. Cet appartement de 95m2 est l'un de ceux que nous pouvons découvrir dans ce bâtiment donnant sur un paysage verdoyant, a été rénové en couleurs vives et actuelles.
Peu de choses ont été sauvegardés de ses éléments d'origine. Conçu selon le modulor cher à l'architecte, il a tout de même conservé ses volumes particuliers. Et sa décoration est un hommage aux années 1960 dont date sa conception. Il est idéal pour découvrir la vie en "ville verticale" voulu par Le Corbusier dans ce bâtiment, où l'on retrouve des logements individuels et des services collectifs. Cette "unité d'habitation" est la dernière des 5 Unités bâties dans le monde.
I've already had the opportunity to show you a Le Corbusier flat in the iconic Cité Radieuse building in Marseille in this article. But there's another building of the same type, called the ‘Unité d'Habitation’, which was constructed in Firminy, south of Saint Etienne, between 1965 and 1967, and which brings together on a single site a Maison de la Culture (listed by UNESCO), a stadium and a church. This 95m2 flat is one of the many we can discover in this building overlooking a green landscape, and has been renovated in bright, contemporary colours.
Little has been preserved of its original features. Designed according to the modulor concept dear to the architect, it has nevertheless retained its distinctive volumes. And its decor is a tribute to the 1960s, when it was first designed. It's the ideal place to discover the ‘vertical city’ living that Le Corbusier wanted to create in this building, with its mix of individual homes and communal services. This ‘unité d'habitation’ is the last of the 5 Unités built in the world.
