C'est dans une maison de ville de style géorgien au nord de Londres, que les propriétaires ont demandé aux professionnels de Mark Lewis Interior design que leur installer une cuisine rustique et harmonieuse en accord avec l'esprit de leur maison. Il était hors de question pour eux et les designers de poser une cuisine design blanche sans âme, trop clinique pour eux. Cette cuisine est faite de vieux bois et les placards ont été réalisés à partir de bancs anciens d'école datant des années 1960.
Les murs sont enduits à la chaux de façon traditionnelle, avec un passage en plusieurs couches qui a été très fastidieuse à réaliser mais pour un résultat qui en vaut la peine. Ceci a permis de conserver l'aspect authentique de la maison, et d'intégrer de façon optimale la nouvelle cuisine sans heurter son âme d'origine. L'ancienne cheminée a été révélée par les travaux, autrefois cachée sous une couche de plâtre. Et les carreaux en provenance d'Espagne sont récupérés et ajoutent un détail authentique dans cette cuisine rustique et harmonieuse qui a même conservé son sol d'origine, soigneusement restauré par les artisans. In a Georgian-style town house in North London, the owners asked the professionals at Mark Lewis Interior design to install a rustic kitchen in harmony with the spirit of their home. It was out of the question for them and the designers to install a soulless white designer kitchen that was too clinical for them. This kitchen is made from old wood, and the cupboards were made from old school benches dating from the 1960s.
The walls are rendered in the traditional way, with several coats of lime plaster, which was very tedious to achieve, but the result is well worth the effort. This has enabled the authentic look of the house to be preserved, and the new kitchen to be integrated seamlessly without detracting from its original soul. The work has revealed the old fireplace, previously hidden under a layer of plaster. And the tiles from Spain were reclaimed, adding an authentic detail to this rustic, harmonious kitchen, which has even retained its original floor, carefully restored by the craftsmen.
