On a presque tous rêvés d'habiter au fond des bois dans une cabane en rondins, lorsque nous étions enfants. Et si on avait une idée assez précise à quoi elle devait ressembler, The Queen's Hut, semble tout droit sortie de ce fantasme. Au bord d'un loch écossais, entouré d'une végétation locale faite de pins et de rhododendrons, puisque la terre est naturellement acide et qu'ils aiment à y proliférer, nous découvrons cette véritable cabane en bois construite en 1920 par Annie Pearson, une vicomtesse, pour son amie la reine Mary, la femme du roi George V, afin de s'y retrouver pour prendre le thé.
La maison qui a été depuis restaurée, accueille désormais les voyageurs de passage (en cliquant sur ce lien), voici donc l'occasion de séjourner dans une demeure historique, mais qui se met à la portée des personnes qui aiment les choses assez simples. La décoration intérieure classiquement anglaise est élégante, et ne laisse pas deviner qu'à l'extérieur, c'est une véritable cabane en bois entouré d'une nature intacte qui a été construite, et non pas une maison anglaise traditionnelle. La vue extérieure depuis les fenêtres est pleine de sérénité, sur les arbres, le ciel et l'eau. Que demander de plus?
Almost all of us dreamed of living deep in the woods in a log cabin when we were children. And if we had a clear idea of what it should look like, The Queen's Hut, seems to have come straight out of that fantasy. On the edge of a Scottish loch, surrounded by local vegetation of pine and rhododendron, as the land is naturally acidic and they like to thrive there, we discover this real log cabin built in 1920 by Annie Pearson, a viscountess, for her friend Queen Mary, the wife of King George V, to meet for tea.
The house has since been restored and is now open to visiting travellers (by clicking on this link), so this is an opportunity to stay in a historic house, but one that is within the reach of those who like things simple enough. The classically English interior decoration is elegant, and does not give away the fact that on the outside it is a real wooden cabin surrounded by unspoilt nature that has been built, not a traditional English house. The view from the windows is full of serenity, of trees, sky and water. What more could you ask for?
