Gon Architects a transformé un vieil appartement à Madrid de 108m2 en style design en repensant le plan autour du parquet existant
Des architectes ont transformé un vieil appartement à Madrid en repensant le plan plutôt que les matériaux. Dans le centre historique de la ville, Casa EME est né d'une rénovation attentive menée par l'équipe de professionnels réputés de Gon Architects. L’appartement de 108m2 occupe un angle d’immeuble dense du quartier Madrid de los Austrias. Dès la première visite, son propriétaire Manuel a imaginé une vie quotidienne simple. Comme lire un dimanche sur son canapé, baigné par la lumière des cinq fenêtres. Ces ouvertures cadrent plusieurs lieux majeurs du centre ancien, dont la Plaza Mayor. Pourtant l’appartement manquait d’organisation malgré sa situation exceptionnelle avec cinq pièces de formes irrégulières.
Un élément unifiait toutefois l’ensemble : un parquet continu en bois d’ipé. Les architectes ont alors décidé de partir de ce sol existant. Il est devenu la mémoire du lieu et la base des transformations. Le projet repose sur une idée claire : déplacer les fonctions sans effacer les pièces. Le parquet resté intact sert de fil conducteur. La chambre rejoint désormais la salle de bain grâce à un passage équipé de rangements. Le bureau se transforme en chambre d'amis grâce à un lit escamotable. Les carreaux verts du bain évoquent un paysage extérieur apaisant. La cuisine prend place au centre de l’appartement, près de l’entrée redessinée par un plafond abaissé. Photo : imagensubliminal
Architects have transformed an old flat in Madrid by rethinking the layout rather than the materials. In the city’s historic centre, Casa EME is the result of a careful renovation carried out by the team of renowned professionals at Gon Architects. The 108m2 flat occupies a corner of a densely built-up block in the Madrid de los Austrias neighbourhood. From the very first visit, its owner, Manuel, envisaged a simple everyday life. Like reading on a Sunday on his sofa, bathed in light from the five windows. These openings frame several key landmarks of the old town centre, including the Plaza Mayor. Yet the flat lacked organisation despite its exceptional location, with five irregularly shaped rooms.
One element, however, unified the whole: a continuous ipé wood floor. The architects therefore decided to build on this existing floor. It became the memory of the space and the basis for the transformations. This project is based on a clear idea: to rearrange the functions without erasing the rooms. The floor, left intact, serves as a unifying thread. Its bedroom now connects to the bathroom via a passageway fitted with storage. The office doubles as a guest bedroom thanks to a Murphy bed. Green tiles in the bathroom evoke a soothing outdoor landscape. The kitchen is situated in the centre of the flat, near the entrance, which has been redesigned with a lowered ceiling.
