This 44sqm apartment optimized in Hong Kong was transformed by C3 Design: black marble, light wood, indirect lighting, and an open floor plan
Hong Kong, a densely populated city, is full of small apartments where one might feel cramped. Yet some designers work miracles there. C3 Design & Decorative Ltd. has just proven this with this 44sqm apartment optimized with an exemplary design. The initial brief was to modernize it and make it appear larger. And that’s where the designers’ talent really shone through.
C3 Design kicked off the project with a radical move. The partition between the living room, dining room, and kitchen was knocked down. The living space became continuous and fluid. It went from a series of connected rooms to a single open space. Wood-look tile now runs from one end of the apartment to the other. The walls feature earthy tones, sand, and soft ochre. Furniture was chosen in light wood, and the textiles in neutral tones. The whole space possesses a true visual coherence.
This is where the project is undoubtedly most interesting. In this apartment with its light tones, the kitchen breaks the mold with its black marble countertop. A striking contrast that, far from disrupting the harmony, structures the space. The kitchen area stands on its own, without the need to separate it with a full-height partition. Built-in cabinets conceal the appliances, making them disappear entirely.
The interior designers opted for indirect lighting. Notice that they didn’t install any harsh central ceiling lights. Instead, they chose concealed light sources that highlight the textures of the materials.
In the bedroom, the professionals followed the same approach. Warm tones, wood accents, soft lighting. A small desk is placed against the window, with adjustable spotlights above. The workspace blends in naturally. It’s a practical solution for new lifestyles that must accommodate remote work.
