Une maison rustique en Tasmanie de 79m2 dans une ancienne grange
Née de la transformation d'une ancienne grange par les architectes Liz Walsh et Alex Nielsen , cette maison rustique en Tasmanie de 79m2 à Hobart a été construite en 1829. Cette réalisation a remporté en 2015 les premiers prix nationaux de l'Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) pour l'architecture de petits projets et l'architecture patrimoniale. Ces prix ont salué l'effort des architectes pour la préservation des caractéristiques initiales du bâtiment, en lui apportant la modernité.
À l'extérieur, on peut admirer la façade authentique en grès et le toit en tôle ondulé typique des granges de la région. À l'intérieur, l'ensemble est à la fois rustique et moderne, avec des murs patinés et conservés, et la présence importante du bois. On y retrouve les poutres datant de la construction, associées à des portes et des fenêtres contemporaines en acier. Le niveau bas accueille la pièce de vie, et à l'étage on trouve une chambre mansardée et un bureau. Les larges planchers d'origine ont été restaurés dans la chambre et, avec les chevrons apparents, conservent ce sens de l'histoire et du caractère du bâtiment.
The result of the conversion of an old barn by architects Liz Walsh and Alex Nielsen, this 79m2 rustic Tasmanian house in Hobart was built in 1829. In 2015, the house won the Australian Institute of Architects' (AIA) inaugural National Awards for Small Project Architecture and Heritage Architecture. The awards recognised the architects' efforts to preserve the building's original features while bringing a modern touch to it.
On the outside, you can admire the authentic sandstone façade and corrugated iron roof typical of barns in the region. Inside, the building is both rustic and modern, with its weathered, preserved walls and the strong presence of wood. The beams from the original building are still there, combined with contemporary steel doors and windows. The lower level houses the living room, and upstairs there is an attic bedroom and a study. The original wide floorboards have been restored in the bedroom and, with the exposed rafters, retain that sense of the building's history and character.
