La Caroline du Sud n'est sans doute pas l'état des USA que nous connaissons le mieux en Europe. La ville de Charleston est renommée pour la beauté de son architecture et de ses jardins. Et c'est donc une belle maison en briques anciennes aux fenêtres cintrée que nous découvrons ici, à Harleston, un des plus anciens quartier de la ville. Casa Zoë est une ancienne remise à calèches qui a été soigneusement rénovée comme une maison de vacances, nichée derrière un manoir, et qui possède un jardin "à la française" avec de magnifiques buis taillés.
Ce type de maison était dissimulé dans de grandes propriétés, à l'arrière de la maison principale. On y pénètre par une porte voûtée dans le hall d'entrée qui relie la cuisine et le salon, tous deux baignés de lumière naturelle. Les briques se retrouvent également à l'intérieur des pièces du premier niveau, qui reste très lumineux. Elle est à la fois rustique et élégante, et particulièrement accueillante avec sa décoration chaleureuse, et ses volumes mansardés à l'étage, où se trouvent les deux chambres.

An arched doorway leads into the entrance hall, which connects the kitchen and living room, both of which are bathed in natural light.
