À Sienne en Italie, le studio de design Catoni Associati a pris en charge une maison médiévale revisitée en un lieu contemporain. Baptisée Casatorre dei Leoni (la Tour des Lions), elle est devenue une maison d’hôtes au confort actuel respectueuse du passé. Derrière sa façade de pierre, l’appartement révèle un intérieur qui a conservé les magnifiques plafonds en bois, les briques apparentes et les volumes d’origine. Des structures fines en acier et verre redessinent les zones, tout en laissant admirer les éléments anciens. La lumière traverse de hautes fenêtres profondes et anime les carreaux de ciment colorés. Dans le salon, une cloison vitrée se marie à du mobilier qui mêle les pièces vintage, classiques et contemporaines.
Les sols graphiques jouent un rôle central, avec leur aspect décoratif. Chaque élément récent dialogue avec les éléments anciens avec un bel équilibre. Les chambres sont dans la ligne directe de cette approche avec des murs texturés et des traces du passé conservées. Des lits à baldaquin en métal dessinent des lignes légères devant la brique et l’enduit. Les voilages filtrent la lumière et adoucissent la rugosité des surfaces anciennes. Les salles de bain adoptent une palette sobre, faite d’enduit clair, de béton et de pierre. Dans les couloirs, les objets choisis soigneusement et les éclairages muraux rythment la circulation. Les arches, les poutres et les sols ont été soigneusement restaurés avec des interventions discrètes.
In Siena, Italy, the Catoni Associati design studio took on the task of transforming a medieval house into a contemporary space. Named Casatorre dei Leoni (The Tower of Lions), it has become a guest house offering modern comforts while respecting the past. Behind its stone façade, the apartment reveals an interior that has retained its magnificent wooden ceilings, exposed brickwork and original volumes. Slender steel and glass structures redefine the spaces, while allowing the ancient elements to be admired. Light streams through tall, deep windows and brings the colourful cement tiles to life. In the living room, a glass partition blends with furniture that combines vintage, classic and contemporary pieces. The graphic floors play a central role with their decorative appearance.
Each new element interacts with the old elements in a beautifully balanced way. The bedrooms are in line with this approach, with textured walls and traces of the past preserved. Metal four-poster beds create light lines against the brick and plaster. Sheer curtains filter the light and soften the roughness of the old surfaces. The bathrooms feature a sober palette of light plaster, concrete and stone. In the corridors, carefully chosen objects and wall lighting punctuate the flow of movement. The arches, beams and floors have been carefully restored with discreet interventions.
