In Joshua Tree, the Californian desert region, there are two types of buildings: traditional houses, often decorated in an ethnic chic and bohemian style, or innovative architect-designed houses. This is the case for this minimalist 160m2 concrete house built with a panel system that makes it fireproof and earthquake resistant. This new construction designed by Urban Architectural Space, called El Cemento Uno, is installed on a huge plot of land next to a non-constructible reserve.
It is therefore preserved from all neighbours and consequently allows itself to have large windows without the need to black them out. Its surroundings are full of birds, insects and lizards, and the building has been carefully positioned to preserve its environment and provide the best views of the mountains, while maximising natural light and ventilation. It is energy efficient, and its simple design is perfectly suited to its purpose as a holiday home, and to its minimalist concrete house architecture.
